A 10-year-old girl’s two younger brothers saved her from a man who tried to lure her while she was walking home after school Wednesday.
The girl got off her school bus at 2 p.m. and was walking home well behind her brothers when a man got out of a vehicle, according to police.
The girl’s father said the man cornered the girl between a fence and a house and then attempted to grab her. She screamed, and that's when her brothers ran back with rocks in hand.
The man went back to his vehicle and fled the scene when he saw the other children, according to police.
“I always tell them to do the right thing, to protect their sisters and brothers,” said the 10-year-old’s father. “Thank God they were able to react the way they did.”
“Luckily this young lady reacted quickly and appropriately, which alerted the other nearby children,” said Detective Melanie Robinson. “Parents should take some time to talk to their children about appropriate precautions and reactions should they ever be faced with a similar frightening occurrence.”
The school sent a letter home to parents with similar recommendations to those from olice. Anonymous flyers have also been put up throughout the neighborhood to warn others to look out.
