Tyler Schmid could've gone Black Friday shopping this year but instead experienced "one of the highlights of [his] outdoor life."
Instead of hauling TVs and electronics home, Schmid reeled in a 90-pound catfish on Tennessee's Cumberland River.
According to WKRN, Schmid caught the extremely large blue catfish after a 10-minute fight. It was 51 inches in length and 37 inches in girth, according to the report.
About the catch, Schmid told the station, "I was worried that the pole would break. It pulled a lot of drag and pulled the pole down in the water." He used skipjack for bait.
He didn't keep the fish, however. He only posed for a couple of pictures before releasing it back into the water.
"A fish that old, approximately 30 years old, it took a long time for him to get that big," he said to WKRN. "It would be a shame to keep the fish just for pictures," though he certainly hopes to catch it again, he said.
The fish is one of the biggest catches in state history, but not the record, the report said. That belongs to a 112-pound blue cat caught in 1998.
