Police in El Paso, Texas, killed a man accused of stealing a car and dragging two officers in a Walmart parking lot late Wednesday, authorities said.

According to KVIA-TV, the deadly shooting occurred about 10:30 p.m. outside the Walmart store on Montana Avenue. When two police officers tried to arrest the driver of a suspected stolen vehicle, he attempted to drive away, striking and dragging the officers, the TV station reported.

That's when one of the dragged police officers shot the driver, killing him, authorities said.

Authorities have not released the names of the suspect or the officers, who are being treated at a nearby hospital, KFOX-TV reported. The department will place the officers on leave during the investigation, authorities said.

The news comes more than two months after a gunman opened fire at another El Paso Walmart, killing 22 people, authorities said. That store is about 10 miles away from the site of Wednesday night's shooting.
