Bob Headings relied on his steadfast optimism and the loving support of his family to hike the Grand Canyon, even though he is confined to a wheelchair.

Headings became a paraplegic when he fell off a ladder in 2005, according to Today. Just the year before the accident, Headings had hiked the Grand Canyon and despite his physical limitations, he wanted to return to the Grand Canyon once again.

His family, including sons and grandsons, began training for the challenging trek, which is documented on John Honaker's blog. A special single-wheeled chair was used to make transporting Headings more convenient. Still, the journey was a difficult and exhausting affair, though ultimately it ended with exhilaration as the family reached the top of the rim.

A crowd had gathered to cheer on the family as they finished the hike.

The family has nicknamed the experience, “I Can’t Believe We Just Did That.”
