Florida Department of Law Enforcement officials said the man accused in the shooting death of two Bethune-Cookman University students committed suicide in his Miami-Dade jail cell Friday night.
They said York Bodden, 26, hanged himself.
York was arrested in Miami Friday after a day-long manhunt.
Investigators said Bodden shot and killed Timesha Carswell, 21, and Diona McDonald, 19, at the Carolina Club Apartments on Thursday.
Police said Bodden and Carswell were dating, but she and McDonald were trying to evict him from the apartment.
"Apparently, he was a roommate or started out as a roommate with the girls and our male victim," said Daytona Beach Police Chief Mike Chitwood. "Somewhere along the line, there was a dispute about not wanting him to be in there anymore. They tried to refund his first month's rent. He didn't take too kindly to that."
Chitwood said Bodden came back to the apartment and shot the girls, and critically injured Micah Parham, a former student.
Both women moved to Daytona Beach from the Detroit area and were members of B-CU's gospel choir.
