Officer dies after being run over by common law wife during hit and run

July 18, 2016The San Antonio police officer who was run over by his common law wife on New Year's Eve died Sunday.
Ernesto Vasquez was an eight year veteran. He was off-duty, walking across the street when he was hit by Diana Lopez, his common law wife, according to KSAT.
She was later arrested and charged with failure to stop and render aid. It is unclear if she will face additional charges Police Chief William McManus told KSAT. That decision will be made by the district attorney's office.
"We had hoped for the best," McManus told KSAT. "That he would come around, but that did not happen."
