Although Oscars Sunday was filled with the question "Who are you wearing?" the U.S. men's soccer team has known for a long time it'll be wearing Nike for the 2014 World Cup. Now everyone knows what they'll look like.
The team was quick to reveal the new uniform to its followers on Twitter. The home jerseys for the team are white shirts featuring grey horizontal stripes and polo-style collars. The shorts and socks are also a traditional white. (Via Twitter / @ussoccer)
The back of the shirt shows the player's name, number and a small USMNT crest at the bottom. It also features the words "One Nation. One Team," only visible in UV light. (Via U.S. Soccer)
Now, fashion on the soccer field isn't as big a deal as it is on the red carpet, but critics say this jersey has the U.S. men's team looking more at home at a country club.
But Deadspin dubs it a "bland, golf shirt-looking thing" and says "there's not much that stands out."
And an editor for The New York Times agrees, tweeting, "The good news is that the new USMNT jersey will also work for the Ryder Cup team. #golfshirt" (Via Twitter / @AndrewDasNYT)
And he later tweeted a link to a Ryder Cup merchandise shop, suggesting the new soccer jerseys could"slide easily onto this page."
But Bleacher Report calls it "a classy twist on a familiar design."
The team's road jerseys will be revealed sometime next month. The 2014 World Cup begins June 12.
