A television program on the state-run channel in Morocco that showed women how to cover up bruises from domestic violence has outraged citizens.

According to the Guardian, the segment, called "The Camouflage Traces of Violence", featured a makeup artist demonstrating how to cover up bruises on a woman with fake black-and-blue marks.

"We hope these beauty tips will help you carry on with your daily life,”, the host said at the end of the segment, broadcast on Wednesday – two days before the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, The Guardian reports.

In response to a public outcry, the channel stated on its Facebook page that the segment was inappropriate and an editorial error of judgment. The channel offered apologies.

In Morocco, where women's adult literacy is only 44 percentit's estimated 1 in 3 women are victims of violence.
