A judge has ruled that a mother and boyfriend charged in the death of a 2-year-old girl can have their own autopsy conducted on her remains.
Rachelle Bond and Michael McCarthy were charged last month. Bond's daughter, Bella, was known as Baby Doe for three months as authorities launched a massive investigation to find out who she was and how she died. The girl's body washed up on a Boston Harbor beach in June.
Attorneys for Bond and McCarthy told FOX25 they would rather not ask for another autopsy, but they have to defend their clients.
Bella Bond's father, Joe Amoroso, says he hopes second autopsy uncovers more information. He would not comment on burial plans as he left the courthouse.
McCarthy is charged with murder, while Bond is charged with being an accessory after the fact. Both have pleaded not guilty.
Bond claims McCarthy killed Bella, but McCarthy has denied it.
A probable cause hearing is scheduled for Nov. 19.
