A Missouri teen who helped push a blind man missing both legs in a wheelchair missing up a hill to his home before a storm spurred a fundraiser to help the man get an electric wheelchair.
As tornado sirens blared, Seth Phillips, 16, and his mother pulled into a gas station Tuesday when they saw Gregory Beck, KMOV reported.
"Everyone kept telling me the storm is coming and you need to hurry up and get home," Beck, who lost both legs last year and is legally blind because of diabetes, told KMOV. "This lady and her son were hollering at me, like, 'Are you OK?'"
Phillips jumped out and started pushing Beck up the hill back home, a trek that typically takes him 25 minutes.
Phillips now considers Beck a friend.
"We need to be caring for each other and helping each other out," Phillips told KMOV.
Phillips’ mother, Amber Gilleylen, is proud of her son.
"His only complaint was 'it makes me sad that people would rather fly by and honk at a disabled person rather than to lend a hand,'" Gilleylen told KMOV.
A GoFundMe account has been set up in order to buy Beck an electric wheelchair.
