A Tulsa vet is helping animals that were injured during the Sand Springs storm last week, and they're doing it for free.
So far the Woodland West Animal Shelter has helped around five pets who were injured in the storm. Tulsa's FOX23 met one dog named Daisy who made a miraculous recovery.
"She is a miracle dog," said owner Richard Williams.
Daisy survived the tornado last Wednesday after the mobile home they lived in was flipped upside down.
"After I saw the shape of my mobile home the first thing I thought about to see was if she was there and if she survived," Williams said.
Williams shared a photo of the flipped house with all of their belongings sitting on the ceiling and Daisy sitting in a red armchair.
"The strange thing is I bought a little cloth chair and the only person who sat on it was Daisy. It was her chair," Williams said.
While the dog survived, she did suffer some extreme injuries including a large cut on one of her legs and five fractures in her pelvis.
The bill for surgery to insert screws totaled around $4,000.
"I was prepared to shell out the money, but what they've done here I can't even begin to think about everything," Williams said.
The vets at the hospital performed the surgery completely free of charge.
"They have a lot more to worry about and if we can spend a few hours or week of our time to help them out, to be honest, it's nothing," said Dr. Mike Jones.
Daisy is doing a lot better after the surgery and Williams said he will be grateful forever.
"They have no idea how much I appreciate what they've done. It's meant a lot," Williams said.
Williams has been living with family since his home was destroyed. Daisy went home with him Wednesday.
