A Dayton man was arrested after he overdosed on heroin at the RTA hub while his 7-year-old son was with him, according to a Dayton Police report.
A police officer found the man not breathing and unresponsive after being called to the bus stop Tuesday night about 7:15 p.m.
Medics gave Narcan to Johnnie Nolan Estepp, 29, a drug to reverse the opioid affects of the drug and brought him back to life, the officer said in his report.
Witnesses told the officer the man’s son was there. He was found sitting on a bench, watching medics working on his father.
The officer introduced himself to the boy, who told him he didn’t know anyone else at the hub. The policeman asked others sitting nearby to distract the boy from the scene while he continued to work the scene. Later, he was able to get the man’s phone, and with the boy’s help, call his grandmother to pick him up at the hospital.
The man was transported to Miami Valley Hospital, and the boy was taken there, too. At the hospital, the boy was reunited with her.
When the officer went to talk with the man, he said the man fled the hospital.
Later, police caught up with the man and arrested him for child endangering and drug charges. He was found with his IV still in his arm, police said.
Estepp is in Montgomery County Jail.
