While this may sound like something from the movie, “I Am Legend,” a man is living his life in a village all by himself — and he has been doing it for around a decade.
Liu Shengja, of China, does not have worry about traffic in the streets or lines at the grocery store because in the village of Xuenshanshe, he is the only resident, The Independent reports. After the villagers left or died, including his mother and younger brother, he was the only one left, the site added.
"In the beginning, I wasn't able to sleep at night while listening to the howling of the wild dogs," he told Chinese newspaper the People's Daily, according to The Independent. "But after I started to tend a few sheep and they've become my companions, I slowly got used to living alone."
Shengja works for the forestry protection station in town and makes 700 yuan (or $107) a month, The Independent reports. According to CCTV News, Shengja said he does like the fact that he can "choose whichever house he wants to live in" within the village limits, and there are still some items left behind by previous owners. The downside is that he still must walk far to get food or water.
"Surviving here is not a problem for me, but I still prefer to move to a more populous area when the time comes," he told CCTV News.
