A DeKalb County jury found a 20-year-old man guilty of killing a former NFL player.
Jurors convicted Antonio Faust of murder, aggravated assault, armed robbery and other charges for the death of David McMillan, 31.
McMillan, who played for the Cleveland Browns, was shot and killed in May 2013. Prosecutors said he was trying to help Faust, who was a complete stranger, by giving him a ride.
In court, prosecutors said Faust admitted to the shooting.
"'I chased him,' he says, 'then when I caught up to him he tried to fight me and then I shot him,'" DeKalb County Assistant District Attorney Leif Howard quoted Faust as saying.
Howard said Faust didn't know McMillan, but asked him for a ride after seeing him at a gas station.
As they rode in McMillan's red GMC truck Faust tried to rob McMillan using a stolen 380 handgun, according to police.
