One Reddit user took to the social media platform to raise awareness about diabetes.
The Telegraph reported that Matt Cronin, a 32-year-old father from Oldbury, England, shared a photo of himself showing an improvised prosthetic leg.
Cronin titled his Reddit post, "built myself a lego leg while I wait for my real one to be built," and shared a photo of his colorful Lego prosthetic, posing with his thumbs up and a smile.
Cronin said his right leg was amputated after he was diagnosed with diabetes. It's the method of improvisation that has gone viral.
“I decided to build a Lego leg because me, my wife Lianne and my daughter Alice were playing with the Lego and it seemed like a fun idea,” he told The Telegraph.
Naturally, some Redditors wanted to know what led to the amputation in the first place. Cronin was happy to explain to help others.
"I was diagnosed as a type 2 when I was 29 (I'm 32 now) about 18 months ago I was put on insulin and my diabetes is controlled. My doctor thinks I've been diabetic for about 10 years undiagnosed," Cronin wrote. "I've had surgery on both eyes (vitrectomy) and have neuropathy in my feet (foot haha) apparently they don't usually happen to someone as young. All I can say is eat well, exercise, check your feet every night for cuts, etc."
Cronin also said he initially had his toes on his right foot amputated in August 2014 because of a diabetic ulcer, which led to his foot being amputated a few months later in November when it did not recover.
The Lego leg is only temporary, though.
Cronin told The Telegraph that although he can stand on the Lego leg, but it's not sturdy enough to walk on. "I didn't glue it together because I didn't want to ruin my daughter's Lego.
It is currently standing in the corner of the living room like a piece of art."
