A man remains in the Palm Beach County Jail after he allegedly injured his 94-year-old mother while demanding money.

Paul Scollo, 62, is facing a charge of elderly abuse without great harm and is being held in lieu of $3,000 bail.

When a deputy from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office asked Scollo about his mother’s injuries, the man replied: “It’s necessary sometimes to get her attention.”

According to an arrest report, Scollo squeezed his mother’s hands until she agreed to give him money. A deputy wrote that the woman’s “injuries were visible in the webbing of both hands.”

Even after authorities arrived, Scollo’s behavior was “very aggressive,” the report said. Scollo allegedly clenched his fist and threatened to punch his brother in the presence of deputies.

The woman told deputies she was scared and believed that Scollo would kill her if she allows him back in the house.
