The Maryland man accused of killing his pregnant girlfriend and burying her in a shallow grave was found dead in his jail cell Thursday.
Tyler Tessier, 33, is believed to have hanged himself, WJZ reported.
Tessier was being held at the Montgomery County Detention Center, WTTG reported.
Jury selection in Tessier's murder trial started this week, WBAL reported.
Last year, Tessier had asked for the public’s help in finding his missing girlfriend, Laura Wallen. Days later, her body was found buried in a shallow grave in a wooded area of Damascus. She was four months pregnant and a teacher at Wilde Lake High School in Columbia.
Shortly after, police admitted that Tessier's press conference was staged, and Tessier had been charged with murder. He was indicted in October. He had pleaded not guilty, WBAL reported.
