The protagonist of "Making A Murderer" is speaking out.

Steven Avery, who is from Wisconsin, spent 18 years in prison for a sexual assault crime that he didn't commit before being released and was then sent back to prison for life without parole after being accused of a murder. His story is detailed in the widely popular Netflix series "Making a Murderer."

A Milwaukee reporter sent Avery an inquiry asking for comment about the eight-part series.

He responded with a three-page letter.

In it, he continued to maintain his innocence.

He wants to give a formal interview, but the Department of Corrections will not allow it, WISN reports.

Meanwhile, Avery's ex-girlfriend Jodi Stachowski, who maintained his innocence originally, changed her stance when she spoke to Nancy Grace about him on air.

Avery devoted a portion of his letter addressing her comments.

"How much money Jodi get to talk bad," he writes, alleging that the state paid her to change her story.
Avery wrote most of the note by hand but sent a typed note as well, which said, "The real killer is still out there. Who is he stalking now? I am really innocent of this case and that is the truth!!! The truth will set me free!!!!!!!"
