Lincoln Motors debuted the new Navigator concept Wednesday at the New York International Auto Show.

The luxury division of Ford is showing a new version of the brand's large SUV, which has been largely unchanged for a decade and was first introduced in 1997.

Lincoln spokesman and actor Matthew McConaughey made an appearance introduing the concept car to viewers.

In addition to a new look, the Navigator concept has new features.

Fox Business reported that the car has video screens on the back of the headrests that also allow back-seat passengers to see the faces of those in front of them.

The car has 30 different ways to adjust seats, according to Lincoln, and there are also specific cutouts in the cargo area for wardrobe and smaller accessories.

The softer, more rounded body shape is a change from older models.

"The brashness is certainly not what we want to be about going forward," Lincoln designer David Woodhouse said. "We want to be about seduction and allure, drawing people into the design."

Woodhouse also said the interior is inspired by a nautical look.

The engine is a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6.

One of the most stunning features are gull-wing doors, which open upward on both sides of the car and three steps that automatically fold out of each side.

But The Detroit News reported that the feature  is purely to make a statement as the concept makes its debut.

"Clearly, when you look at what we’ve done with Lincoln over the past three or four years, we’ve set out with a very specific plan to make the brand differentiated but relevant," Ford Motor Co. CEO Mark Fields said. "We thought let’s have a little fun with it … It makes a statement."

CNN Money reported that the purpose of the doors, which open for access to the front and back row of seats, is for a viewer to see the interior better, according Lincoln executives.

The new Navigator will be available in 2017, in time for its 20th anniversary.
