Students at one Maryland high school may have thought their senior prank was somewhat harmless. How much trouble could ladybugs cause? One or two may not be a big deal, but when officials said they released 72,000 of the critters into the school, the prank ended with seven people facing criminal charges.
WUSA reported that five people, wearing masks, broke into Chopticon High School in Morganza, Md. early Wednesday morning. Once inside, they released about 72,000 ladybugs in the school.
During the investigation, officials identified seven people involved, four who they said forced a door open and two who waited in a car.
They also found the student they said ordered the bugs online.
The teens were charged with burglary, property destruction and disruption of school activities and were released to their parents, WRC reported.
Three men were also be charged by summons, police told WRC.
