"(A)ny guest wearing a sticker indicating he or she voted will receive one free doughnut of choice," the company said on its website Thursday.

All is not lost for those who voted early. Although Krispy Kreme would like to see the stickers, customers can "simply mention the offer at your participating location," the company said on Facebook.

The company said that the shop should honor the offer if customers mention it and say that they voted.

One customer expressed concern about the offer breaking the law, but the company said the offer "does not encourage people to vote one way or another and is made available to anyone who mentions it at a participating location."

More information about the offer, including locations that are not participating, is at the Krispy Kreme website.
