“'White supremacy is the old Klan. This is the new Klan,” KKK leader John Abarr said.

Abarr founded the Montana group known as the Rocky Mountain Knights. He said he wants his “new Klan” to “stand for a strong America rather than irrational hatred."

The Great Falls Tribune reports Abarr met with the NAACP telling them "We don't need to be separate." Anyone joining would "still have to wear robes and hoods and take part in secret rituals."

Some black leaders say they are open to hearing the message.

However, not everyone is thrilled with Abarr’s attempt at extending the olive branch. “That man's going against everything the bylaws of the constitution of the KKK say,” KKK Imperial Wizard Bradley Jenkins proclaimed. “He's trying to hide behind the KKK to further his political career.”

Although the Klan hasn’t been officially recognized in decades, it’s estimated there are up to 8,000 people who follow its beliefs.
