1 killed, several injured when buses collide in New Jersey

At least one person died and seven were critically injured when one bus apparently T-boned another at an intersection in New Jersey Friday morning, according to reports.

The driver of one of the buses died in the accident which occurred around 6 a.m., WPIX reported, citing an unnamed EMS source. The exact number of injured is still unclear, however Mayor Ras Baraka said seven people were critically injured. At least 19 people were injured, according to WABC.

Photos from the intersection of North Broad Street and Raymond Boulevard, where the crash occurred, showed one bus was nearly broken in half.

Both buses appeared to be with New Jersey Transit. One of the buses was empty while the other was carrying 20 passengers. The public transportation system announced delays on social media after the accident.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office is investigating.
