Joaquin has strengthened and is now a hurricane as it closes in on the Bahamas.
A hurricane warning was issued Wednesday for the central Bahamas.
Hurricane Joaquin's maximum winds increased to near 75 mph, The Associated Press reported.
The U.S. National Hurricane Center expects the storm to grow in strength over the next two days.
Joaquin's center is expected to pass over or near the central Bahamas Wednesday night or Thursday.
