The brutal, unsolved murder of Jessica Chambers, 19, has reached the national spotlight. In its Jan. 4 edition, People magazine will feature the Mississippi homicide investigation on its cover.
Just over a year has passed since Chambers was found walking down a back road in Panola County while on fire, according to investigators. Police said Chambers spoke to first responders before she died, but the identity of her killer remains a mystery.
She suffered burns over 98 percent of her body and died en route to a hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
Panola County Sheriff Dennis Darby recently told FOX13 his department has fresh leads in the case. We asked how confident he is about those leads, and whether or not they could yield an arrest.
"You know there are no 100 percents on anything, no 100 percent guarantees," Darby said. "But we feel good about it."
For Chambers' father questions still loom.
"[We've] had so many ups and downs," Ben Chambers said. "We thought we had them a while back, and it was a letdown. It's just so hard."
