A man who worked at an Iowa women's correctional facility is accused of having sex with an inmate, authorities said.

Shawn William Durrell, 56, of Urbandale, who worked at the Iowa Correctional Institution for Women in Mitchellville, was arrested Friday and charged with engaging in sexual acts with an inmate, the Des Moines Register reported. He was released after posting bail, the newspaper reported.

According to court documents, Durrell had sex with inmate between July 4 and Aug. 5, offering tobacco products in exchange, KCCI reported.

Durrell was working as the prison's food service coordinator when the alleged sexual conduct occurred, the Register reported. He worked at the facility for 16 years before retiring in August, the newspaper reported.
