Ded Rranxburgaj works two jobs to support a teenage son, another son in college and a wife in a wheelchair who suffers from multiple sclerosis and recently had a stroke.
Rranxburgaj and his wife Flora immigrated years ago from Albania. They sought asylum from religious persecution but were turned down. Because of his wife’s health they were able to stay.
However, that changed after their latest meeting with immigration officials. Flora can stay now because of her deteriorating health but Ded has been ordered to leave in January, according to WXYZ.
"They are killing me to send me back like that, to leave my family, to leave my 14-year-old, to leave my wife to die at home," Ded told WXYZ.
An attorney for the family hopes that bringing attention to their plight could help Rranxburgaj stay.
"I just cry and cry and cry," Flora Rranxburgaj told WXYZ. "My husband has taken care of me for lots of years. He is good husband, good father. I would rather they kill me than take him and leave me here."
Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials did not comment to WXYZ.
