Firefighters believe a dog started a house fire after jumping on the stove to get some barbecue left there and turning it on.
The Labrador retriever was left alone in the house and according to its owners, it has turned on the stove on in the past, Austin Fire Department officials said.
The dog was rescued from the home and resuscitated by firefighters and EMS, officials said.
The fire caused $75,000 in damages to the two-story home and $25,000 in damage to contents of the home, officials said.
Two people displaced by the fire are staying with family, officials said.
The dog was sent to a veterinary hospital and is in serious condition, fire officials said.
