An Arizona family returned to their residence to find a homeless man passed out in one of their beds, police said.

According to Maricopa County court documents, on Sept. 5 Kyle Brian Mendiola, 31, was found on a bed in a Gilbert home surrounded by multiple used needles and a small container of heroin, KTVK reported.

Police said they entered the home and found "multiple used needles with heroin residue on them." They also allegedly found a cotton swab with a "chunk of heroin on it," KNXV reported.

According to court documents, the family said about $15,000 worth of items were missing from their home, the television station reported. Police said they found several items in Mendiola's pockets, according to KTVK.

Mendiola was charged with second-degree burglary, according to court documents.
