Hilary Duff and her husband, Mike Comrie, have separated.
Duff's representative has confirmed to multiple outlets that the pair has "mutually decided [upon] an amicable separation." (Via E!)
This is one of those rare surprise splits in the celebrity world. There had been no rumors that the two were in trouble, no trips alone nor solo red carpet appearances. (Via ABC / "Jimmy Kimmel Live")
In fact, just a week ago, Duff posted a picture of the two dressed up together on Instagram. And People Magazine quotes a "source close to Duff":
"There was no major incident. ... They really did drift apart. They have put effort and thought into this decision for a long time. They tried couples therapy, but in the end, they realized at this time, they work better as friends."
Thirty-three-year-old Comrie is a retired NHL player. He and 26-year-old Duff began dating in 2007 and wed in 2010, then in March 2012 welcomed their son and only child, Luca. (Via Warner Bros. / "Ellen")
