Christina Simoes looked around and realized she had no choice.
Fire was raging all around her third story apartment and there was only one way out.
She went to the window, and took it.
"I put my legs out, and then I grabbed my son, and I gave him a kiss, she told MyFoxBoston. "I told him I love him, and then I jumped.
Christina landed on her feet, but the force of the impact snapped her vertebra. “I fell straight to the ground,” she said.
Even so, 18-month-old Cameron “was perfectly fine. He didn't hit anything."
Firefighters found her there and transported both to the hospital.
Doctors placed a rod in her back during a six-hour surgery, but they aren’t sure if it will be enough to allow her to walk again.
"It's so worth it because he's OK," Simoes said.
Friends and supporters have started a fund to help the family.
