A project at Union Station in Los Angeles put a spotlight on the kindness and honesty of strangers.
A board recently installed on the historic station’s concourse advised passers-by to “give what you can, take what you need.” Visitors used thumbtacks to post dollar bills to the board, and those in need took them.
"People of all genders, races and socioeconomic backgrounds gave and took," Tyler Bridges of organizer The Toolbox told The Huffington Post. "We even had a bride in her wedding dress come up to the board and take a few dollars."
And it’s not just a dollar here, a dollar there. People left $5, $10, even $20 bills.
“What I can say for the folks that gave the most, is that they were full of smiles,” Bridges said. “There’s a certain feeling that giving can do for you, and that was definitely apparent in those that gave the most.”
Bridges said the goal of the project was to show generosity and compassion and that he hopes other people see what The Toolbox did in Los Angeles and take it to other cities.
