A Florida grandmother and her grandson were trying to make a trip to McDonald’s on Thursday afternoon when their car was swallowed by a sinkhole.
The woman and her 4-year-old boy were approaching the drive-thru at the Cooper City McDonald's when a small sinkhole swallowed the front end of their Toyota SUV, WPLG reports. Both were able to escape, but it left a toll on them.
"She was a bit nervous, especially being by herself with her grandson," Michelle Otero, the boy’s mother, told WPLG.
Mike Jachles, spokesman for the Broward County Sheriff’s Office of Fire Rescue, said the grandmother noticed the sinkhole and stopped just before it began, but as it widened, the SUV sank into the hole.
According to WPLG, a water main break is believed to be the cause of the sinkhole with authorities set to replace the 12-inch water main for the restaurant.
