For the moment, a black hole appears to be all that remains of the popular online game after season 10 ended Sunday afternoon, according to CNET. Meanwhile, thousands of posts vanished from the game's Twitter page, except for one: an eerie livestream showing a void surrounded by a blue light. The same stream appears on the "Fortnite" websiteFox Business reported.

Although nothing else appeared to be happening on the livestream, about 17,000 people were still watching early Monday.

The good news for fans is that the game almost certainly isn't dead, news outlets are reporting. Although the game's developer, Epic, has not released any official details about when "Fortnite" will return, CNET said a new season of the game likely will begin Thursday. During the "server downtime," developers likely will be "paving the way for the debut of the new 'Fortnite' map that has been rumored and leaked for ages now," Forbes reported.

"Instead of just the standard update approach that Epic does for Fortnite ... which is going down for a few hours to apply an update, Epic has created an entire marketing and social media campaign, along with a narrative story around it," e-sports consultant Rod Breslau told CNN Business.
