Teenager Noah Thrift caught an 8-foot, 250-pound lemon shark at the Fernandina Beach city docks Saturday afternoon.
Thrift, 15, said he dropped his line in the water when he was done cleaning Ye Ole Pirate, the fishing charter boat that he works on as a deckhand.
After his line had been in the water for some time, Thrift looked over and saw his fishing pole bent over. He rushed to grab the pole.
“It took me about 30, 45 minutes to bring in the shark,” Thrift said.
He said there are a lot of sharks around the docks because of the fish nearby.
Thrift said he released the shark safely back into the water.
