An Interlachen, Florida man who was arrested on suspicion of growing more than 90 marijuana plants was taken into custody for the second time this week.
Boyd Gene Wiley was arrested after complaining to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office that detectives took his marijuana plants without permission.
Thursday, Wiley went to the home of Herbert Thorne, 60, to talk about money that Thorne allegedly owed, according to police.
Witnesses told police that the discussion turned into an argument.
Thorne slapped Wiley in the face with a shovel, according to police. Wiley took the shovel from Thorne and hit him in the head several times, causing a severe gash, police say.
Thorne was taken to UF Health as a trauma alert patient.
Wiley called the police to report that he was hit by Thorne, but was arrested and booked into the Putnam County Jail.
He is charged with aggravated battery causing bodily injury or disfigurement. Wiley posted $2,504 bond and was released.
