Florida man discovers how to get free items at Publix

One South Florida man's discovery may lead other customers to reconsider how they look at prices at Publix.

Joseph Burgess told our news partners at WPTV that when he went to a number of Publix stores from Fort Lauderdale to Jupiter, he noticed many of the prices listed on the shelves didn't match what popped up at the register.

Burgess was able to get items for free because of the "Publix Promise," which guarantees customers that the price that rings up at the register is the same on shelf. If the prices don't match, customers are offered the first item for free and you are charged full price if you are buying multiples of that same item, according to WPTV.

According to Publix, “it runs routine maintenance to make sure the price tag matches what’s in the register” and also have clerks tasked with keeping up with prices.

According to WPTV, another Publix customer "noticed rotisserie chickens were not as plump as advertised, so she went to multiple stores and got dozens of free chickens."
