An Indiana man told his wife he was going to build a backyard baseball field for their son and his travel baseball team, but what he came up with wasn't the "Sandlot," it's more like a "Field of Dreams."

Andrea Wahl told her husband Adam Wahl it was fine but to stay on budget, with the limit set at $5,000, according to the Daily Reporter.

Adam Wahl carved out a chunk of their four acres and started building.

At first, they had to level out the field that had grown crops and add some infield dirt and a chain-link backstop.

But Adam Wahl blew through the $5,000 and spent 12 times that amount.

The final cost for Adam Wahl's field of dreams -- a whopping $60,000, the couple told the Daily Reporter.

He trucked in outfield turf, a dirt mix infield, put in a drainage system and constructed foul poles and floodlights.

He also built a backstop made of brick that looks like the famous wall at Wrigley Field.

But the project isn't done.

Adam Wahl will be replacing the outfield fence and adding dugouts, bleachers, concessions and a flag pole, according to the newspaper.

The field is now home to the couple's son Peyton Wahl's 10-and-under travel team for practice and games so the 9-year-old and his teammates can learn all they can about America's pastime.

Starting this fall, the Wahls hope to host games and get some double-headers and round-robin matches going, according to the Daily Reporter.
