A young emergency medical technician who helped save dozens of people was killed on her last day of work, authorities say.
Twenty-two-year-old Hinal Patel and her partner were responding to a call with lights and sirens running when “they came through the intersection and were struck by another vehicle, which caused their vehicle to actually spin around and then land on its passenger side and skid across the roadway."
Lt. Kevin F. Zebro told ABC7 the accident killed Patel.
The drivers of both the ambulance and the car were also injured.
"Hinal was a very smart, dedicated member of our family and she will be greatly missed,” Fire Chief John Scarpa said in a statement. “She had many close friends at North Stelton. The members of the North Stelton Volunteer Fire Company are devastated by her loss."
Patel’s family confirmed she wanted to be a doctor or a physician assistant and was set to start medical school Monday.
No citations have been issued as a result of the crash.
