An elderly woman who panhandled regularly at a street corner in Oklahoma City is now the subject of a heated debate and viral video.
The 78-year-old woman, whom has not been identified, was recognized by Brandi Newman as the panhandler who she had given money to earlier in the week. Newman claims on her Facebook page that the elderly woman held a sign that said, "78-year-old widow needs money for food."
As Newman approached the elderly woman’s car to take a photo, she witnessed a man, Daniel Ayala, confront the panhandler. She captured the heated confrontation on video. His angry, expletive-filled tirade has gone viral, with over 2.6 million views on Facebook in just a few days. In a local news report, Ayala claims he gave the elderly woman over $15 in five days.
The elderly panhandler’s family reached out to local media and claim the woman has a panhandling permit and is doing nothing illegal. They are appalled by the video.
