Traffic continues to be turned away in both directions from the dam as police continue to investigate the incident.

The victim’s identity has not been released.

FIRST REPORT

A man was rescued after he drove off the dam and landed in the Great Miami River on U.S. 40.

Fire and rescue units responded to the scene at approximately 11:30 a.m.

Traffic was stopped so Careflight could land on the dam to transport the patient.

Paramedics worked for several minutes to provide care at the scene after the medical helicopter landed.

A fire official said it’s possible the driver suffered a medical emergency, which caused him to lose control of the van.

Police said the van somehow avoided the barricades that block vehicles from going over the dam.

The van appears to have traveled past the barriers and crashed through a fence before landing on its side in the water.

Firefighters launched boats to check whether anyone else was in the van or the water.

A fire official said no one else is believed to have been in the van.
