Donald Trump reportedly calls son of slain San Antonio police officer

The man accused of shooting and killing San Antonio Police Department Detective Benjamin Marconi during a traffic stop Monday reportedly said he "lashed out at somebody who didn't deserve it."

That man, Otis Tryrone McKane, has been arrested after a 30-hour manhunt, according to My San Antonio.

On Monday evening, the son of the slain officer posted on Facebook that the family had received a call from President-elect Donald Trump, who offered his condolences.

“Just got off the phone with the future President Trump, he sends his condolences to our family,” Dane Gregory Marconi wrote.

The post has since been made private but was screen-grabbed.

A public records search by My San Antonio showed that Dane Marconi was the son of the deceased officer. He didn’t respond for comment, and Trump spokeswoman Hope Hicks has not yet confirmed that the call was made.

The Marconi family has asked for privacy during this time of mourning.

“At this time, the Marconi family would like to give thanks from the bottom of our hearts for the outpouring of support, prayers and love we have received. At this time, we would appreciate privacy to mourn the loss of a wonderful father, brother, grandfather, friend and last, but not least, a peace officer,” the family said in a statement.

In a video posted to the San Antonio Police Department's Facebook page, San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said Marconi died after being shot twice.

McManus said that while Marconi was inside his vehicle writing a ticket, another vehicle pulled up behind him. McManus said the driver of that vehicle got out, walked up to Marconi's driver-side window and shot him in the head.

Marconi was a 20-year veteran of the police force.
