A dog has a new comfort friend after losing his ears in a truck fire.

Scooby was left in a truck as his owners were getting supplies at a food pantry.

The truck caught fire and Scooby was trapped. Another dog kept in the vehicle was able to escape.

Once rescued from the burning truck, Scooby was taken to BluePearl Veterinary Partners. Doctors there were able to remove melted plastic from his paws and treated his burned nose, but were unable to save Scooby's badly damaged ears, "The Today Show" reported.

One of the technicians brought Scooby a Hello Kitty stuffed animal so he didn’t feel lonely. She also altered the stuffed cat by removing its ears, so it looked a little more like Scooby.

The stuffed animal is just what Scooby needed.

He’s been carrying around the kitty and sleeping on top of it.

Despite the surgery, techs say that Scooby can hear.

He'll have to stay at the vets a little while longer for treatment, but then he'll live with one of the techs until his owners are able to care for him, "The Today Show" reported.

Scooby's vet bills are being covered by Frankie's Friends, a non-profit that pays when a family can't afford treatment for their pets. Its fundraising goal was $7,000. As of Thursday, the charity has raised more than $8,400.

Scooby was injured in a fire. A vet tech made a new friend for him as he recovers.
