This pup finally gets a happy ending.
A neglected 4-year-old dog was rescued and taken in by a foster family after he was found in bad condition and missing part of his nose, ABC News reports.
A Chow Chow, named Harry, was found by Kansas City Animal Control chained in a backyard last month. The dog was “in terrible shape” left without food or water, according to ABC News. Animal Control took Harry to an animal shelter in Missouri called the KC Pet Project on June 21.
"We found a shocking five pounds of heavy, hardened and matted hair more than six inches thick covering his emaciated body," a KC staff member wrote on the shelter's Facebook page, according to Huffington Post. "Even more disturbing, most of his nose is missing, consistent with a sharp cut from an unknown object."
KC Pet Project gave Harry a full makeover by taking two hours to shave his large amount of hair, according to Huffington Post. They also gave Harry medical care when they discovered fly strikes on his ears and scarred corneas from overgrown eyelashes. They also believe Harry has heartworms and is “mostly blind,” ABC News reports.
Since placed with a foster family, Harry is doing better than ever.
“They’re spoiling him with love, which is exactly what he needs and deserves,” said manager of marketing and development for KC Pet Project, Tori Fugate, to ABC News.
Fugate said to Huffington Post they are looking for an eye specialist to help Harry with his lost vision, and KC Pet Project is accepting donations through the Roadrunner Fund to help pay for the dog's medical expenses.
Complaints have been filed against Harry’s previous owner.
