A little boy in Florida didn't let the teasing and comments from both children and adults stop him from helping kids with cancer.

The 6-year-old first saw a commercial about pediatric cancer and eventually discovered a charity that provides wigs to kids with cancer and other medical conditions that makes them lose their hair.

Christian McPhilamy decided that he would grow his hair out and as Florida Today reported, that's when the comments started.

Christian, who took 2 1/2 years to grow enough hair to donate it to the charity, said some called him a girl, but even though the comments didn't make him feel good, he would not give up his plan to donate his hair.

He said he would explain why he was growing his hair, and most people still teased him. One adult who told him that it was time to cut his hair, but when that person found out why Christian's hair was so long, he did offer an apology, Florida Today reported.

A few weeks ago, the growing hair came to an end and he cut off four pony tails that each measured nearly a foot.

The family then mailed them to Children with Hair Loss.

A volunteer with the charity said they are helping more than 335 children from the ages of 2 to 21. Each child can get a free wig each year with documentation of a medical condition.

This is not the first time Christian wanted to help other kids.  Florida Today reported that the family donates clothes and toys to those who need it.  They also hide dollar bills in a discount store or at a Redbox kiosk to brighten someone's day, Florida Today reported.
