Deputy's young son accidentally discharges gun inside Wendy's

The 2-year-old son of a Florida sheriff's deputy accidentally fired his father's personal handgun inside a fast food restaurant Thursday, according to police reports.

According to a Clay County Sheriff’s Office report, Sgt. Matt Magish was inside a Middleburg Wendy's when his young son reached into Magish’s pocket looking for a snack and accidentally fired Magish’s gun, sending a bullet into floor.

Bullet fragments hit the child's foot, but he didn’t need medical treatment. Three adults, including the boy’s grandfather, were also hit by bullet fragments and their injuries were minor cuts and bruises, the report detailed.

Magish was off-duty during the time of the incident.  The gun was not Magish’s service gun, but was his personal weapon.

CCSO said the accident will have no effect on the sergeant's job. Spokeswoman Mary Justino says Magish has been with the agency since 2001.
