A North Florida man was arrested on Monday after deputies said he assaulted his wife because he didn’t approve of her birthday cake choice.

James Clarke, 48, of Palm Coast, was put behind bars on Monday night after the Flagler County Sheriff's Office said he beat his wife after she picked out the wrong type of birthday cake for him, the Daytona Beach News-Journal reports. Deputies said Clarke threw his wife's crutches at her.

According to the report, Clarke was “upset over the cake she purchased for him for his birthday and threw it into the woods outside their home.” Deputies said he took the crutches from his wife and pushed her over multiple times.

Clarke told deputies that his wife was intoxicated and she followed him outside where she attacked him. A small scratch on his face was noted by deputies, the News-Journal reports.

Deputies said a witness told them Clarke took the crutches from his wife and pushed her to the ground and would kick her when she attempted to get back up. The witness said he “threw the crutches at her one at a time,” the News-Journal added.
