3 dead, 5 sick after Thanksgiving dinner at church event
Three people are dead at at least five sick after having Thanksgiving dinner at a church event near San Francisco.
According to The Associated Press, eight people, possibly suffering from a food-borne illness, were taken Friday and Saturday to an Antioch, California, hospital, where three died. Four of the victims were sent home after receiving treatment, and one is still in the hospital.
All eight people, who live in the same care facility, attended a Thanksgiving dinner hosted by Golden Hills Community Church at Antioch's American Legion hall. Health officials believe that the victims might have become sick there or at the assisted-living center.
More than 800 people attended the dinner, which included turkey, stuffing, bread, mashed potatoes, green beans and pies. No other attendees reported becoming ill.
