Chicago police honor 6-year-old's dying wish to become one of them

Madison Pruitt always dreamed of becoming a police officer, but cancer cut her life short.
So last week, the Chicago Police Department honored Madison, who was 6 years old, in a special ceremony to give her a taste of what police work is all about. Just four days later, Madison died.
During the ceremony, police officers included Madison in their roll call.

Madison Pruitt received the Medal of Valor for her bravery. The Interim Sup, with approximately 75 officers from various units went to her house to present the award to her yesterday.

Officers were floored by her incredible spirit.
“If she doesn’t make you feel good about life, then nothing else will. Despite the fact that she’s going through what she’s going through, she was able to muster up a smile,” said Interim Superintendent Eddie Johnson.
Her family told WLS-TV that they hope Madison's story will encourage more people to support research in childhood cancer. Her grandmother said the family will remember the special day forever.
