An armed robbery attempt was thwarted by a well-trained clerk in Brevard County last week.
On Jan. 26, a man carrying what appeared to be a gun entered the Sugar Creek Gas Station in Mims demanding money, according to the Brevard Times. When the robber handed the clerk a plastic bag to place the money inside, a struggle ensued.
The clerk, a U.S. military veteran who served multiple tours in Iraq, struck the suspect in the face several times, disarming him and forcing him to run away. The suspect -- a 5-foot-8, 19-22 year old male -- is still at large.
"Although I never encourage our citizens to actively engage criminals over money or personal possessions, I bet this criminal thinks twice before taking on a U.S. veteran again," Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey told the Brevard Times.
It was later determined that the weapon was a replica revolver-style airsoft gun.
